QUICK TIPS FOR CLAMPING YOUR DIY PROJECT

When planning for your next project consider that almost all power tools are designed to be held with two hands. That’s why material clamps are very handy to make your DIY project safe, as well as help you achieve the best finish with maximum control over the tool you decide to use. Check out these quick tips for clamping your next DIY project from Andy and Candy to achieve the best possible result.

THREE CONTACT POINTS

Where possible, try and find three points on your workpiece to clamp it down to your workbench or support. Two is good, but three is better. This will help prevent your project from moving or swivelling while you’re working on it.

FREE UP YOUR HANDS

When you’ve got your workpiece clamped and secure, your hands will be free to keep a firm grip on the power tool you’re using. Not only is this safer, but it means you’re in better control of the tool to help you achieve that perfect result in your project.

PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT

Do a practise run with your tool to work out where the clamps may need to be placed to ensure they’re not going to get in the way. You may need to stop and reset the clamps a few times while you work to keep the best control over the tool without needing to overreach.
