BENEFITS OF A COMPOUND SLIDING MITRE SAW

A mitre saw is a must have for anyone who commonly works with wood. With so many options choosing the right saw can be a tricky task. Do you need to cut bevel’s, mitre’s, cross cuts or compound mitres and how big is the timber you are cutting? It’s a bit to consider. If you’re weighing up your options, slide up a stool and check out our quick video where Andrew Murray runs you through everything you can do with the Ozito Compound Sliding Mitre Saw.

WHAT IS A COMPOUND MITRE SAW?

In most cases, a compound mitre saw is a safer bet. Compound refers to the saw’s ability to make angled bevel cuts, so starting with a compound mitre saw will mean you can make the full range of cuts with ease.

SLIDING VS NON SLIDING MITRE SAWS

As you might have guessed from the name, the main additional feature in a sliding compound mitre saw are the inclusion of rails that allow the saw blade to slide back and forth as you cut. A sliding compound mitre saw can make all the cuts that a standard mitre saw does, but the sliding rail means that it can handle a much wider material than a standard non sliding mitre saw.

If it’s likely that you will need to cut thick or wide materials, then it’s worth investing in the sliding option. Common jobs that are likely to involve cutting through thick woods include:

  • Cutting or preparing fence posts
  • Cutting floorboards
  • Timber widths more than 200mm
